These Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls are such a fun treat for breakfast or brunch! Made with a homemade dough and topped with a gooey frosting!
Cinnamon rolls just happen to me one of my favorite pastries to eat with my morning coffee. And what’s not to love? You’ve got puffy dough filled with cinnamon and sugar topped with a creamy cream cheese frosting! It’s the BEST!

Don’t get me wrong. Sometimes I love cutting corners in the kitchen especially when the kids ask at the last minute for a tasty treats. Like these lemon blueberry cheesecake cinnamon rolls that I made with pre-made cinnamon rolls and just doctored up the flavor! Perfect for when you are in a crunch!
I also like to use puff pastry to make cinnamon rolls, like the time I made these apple pie cinnamon rolls! So quick and easy!
MAKE THE DOUGH FOR RED VELVET CINNAMON ROLLS!
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cup flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
- 1 cup milk, warm
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/3 cup red gel food coloring
Ingredients for rolling out and topping the cinnamon rolls!
FOR THE FILLING:
5 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
4 tablespoons cinnamon
FOR THE FROSTING:
1 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Directions:
- In mixing bowl add warm milk, butter, eggs, salt, sugar, yeast and food coloring. Stir till combined. You may still see a few chunks of butter.
- Add flour and salt. Stir till you form a soft, slightly sticky ball.
- Cover and allow the dough to rise for 1 hour.
- Turn dough out onto floured counter and roll out 18×10-in. rectangle.
- Brush dough with the melted butter, then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up and cut it into 1 inch round pieces. Place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
- Put two rolls close to each other and pinch their bottoms to get the heart shape.
- Bake for 15-20 min until no longer doughy.
- In a medium bowl make frosting by beating together the cream cheese and powdered sugar.
- Spread with the frosting over the baked cinnamon rolls.
- Serve and ENJOY!
